3.1 magnitude earthquake hits Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand




An earthquake of magnitude 3.1 hit Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand in the early hours of Monday, said the National Center for Seismology

Mild tremors were felt after an earthquake measuring 3.1 on the Richter scale hit the land of Uttarkashi in Uttarakhand in the early hours of Monday.

According to the National Center for Seismology, the epicenter of the earthquake was 5 km below the ground and its magnitude was 3.1. It happened at about 1:50 am 24 km ESE of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand.

"Earthquake magnitude: 3.1 occurred on 19-12-2022, 01:50:05 IST, Latitude: 30.68 & Long: 78.68, Depth: 5 km, Location: 24km ESE of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand, India," National Center for Earthquakes Tweeted for science.

Since the earthquake was of low intensity, no casualties or major damage to property has been reported so far.

Another earthquake measuring 4.5 on the Richter scale hit Uttarakhand's Tehri on November 6.

The NCS had tweeted, "Earthquake Magnitude: 4.5, occurred on 06-11-2022, 08:33:03 IST, Latitude: 30.67 & Long: 78.60, Depth: 5 km, Location: 17 km ESE of Uttarkashi, Uttarakhand "
