Who is Indian-American Nabila Syed, who created history in US mid-term elections

 



The 23-year-old Democrat, Indian-American won the most recent US midterm election by defeating Chris Bose of the Republican Party.

Nabila Syed has created history by becoming the youngest member of the Illinois General Assembly. The 23-year-old Democrat, Indian-American won the most recent US midterm election by defeating Chris Bose of the Republican Party. In the race for the 51st district of the Illinois State House of Representatives, he received 52.3% of the vote.

Nabila grew up in the Palatine, Illinois, and graduated from the University of California, Berkeley with a double major in political science and business.

Syed advocates for Interfaith Dialogue and works to empower young Muslim women to take leadership roles within their religious community at the Islamic Society of Northwest Suburbs.

According to her website, Nabila has collaborated with several organizations, such as Emily's List, to raise funds to elect Democrats to Congress. He headed a non-profit consulting firm that helped neighborhood businesses.

She is currently employed by a non-profit, where she supports various civic engagement initiatives through digital strategy, such as mobilizing voters, preventing sexual harassment on college campuses, and advancing gender equality.

Expressing happiness over his election victory on Twitter, Syed said, "My name is Nabila Syed. I am a 23 year old Muslim, Indian-American woman. We just flipped a Republican-held suburban district."

She continued, "And in January, I will be the youngest member of the Illinois General Assembly."

In a follow-up tweet, Syed further wrote, "Thank you thread tomorrow. We had an incredible team that made this possible."

Additionally, Nabila Syed posted a lengthy essay on Instagram detailing her journey. She described her purpose as follows: "When I declared for state representative, I made it a mission to really engage in dialogue with the people - to give them a reason to join our democracy." And to look forward to better leadership that represents their values."

She won the race, Syed continued, "because we were engaged in that conversation."
