WhatsApp may bring screen lock feature for its desktop users: Report

• Screen lock will be optional on WhatsApp. Users will be able to choose when the app will require a password, giving them more control over their WhatsApp chats.

Meta-owned WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature for its desktop users. Called Screen Lock, this feature will ask for a password every time any user opens the application. This will bring an additional layer of security to WhatsApp and protect unauthorized access when the user is not using their device running WhatsApp.

As reported by WaBetaInfo, an online platform that tracks new and upcoming features of WhatsApp, the feature is currently under development. It is expected to be released to some beta testers in the future.

According to the report, screen lock will be optional on WhatsApp. Users will be able to choose when the app should require a password, giving them more control over their WhatsApp chats. The password set by the user will not be shared by WhatsApp. Instead, it will be saved locally.

Users can also protect their chats with a fingerprint sensor along with a numeric password. As WaBetaInfo reports, WhatsApp may also implement a feature that lets users lock the app using Touch ID on Macs if the fingerprint sensor is available.

Since this feature is under development, it is not yet ready so some elements of the interface may be missing in this screenshot. As additional news,

What happens if the user forgets the screen lock password?

The report suggests that if users forget the set password, they simply need to log out of WhatsApp Desktop and log in again.

"If you lose the password, you will need to log out of the app and log in again to WhatsApp Desktop by pairing your device with the QR code", it says.

In other news, the instant messaging app recently launched the Create Polls feature. The feature works for both Android and iPhone and is now available to the users. Earlier, the feature only allowed users to vote in groups, but now WhatsApp users can use it in individual chats as well.
