The US Embassy on Monday informed that the Embassy has opened several B1/B2 interview waiver appointments for the coming month in Delhi, Mumbai and Chennai.
B-1/B-2 visitor visas are for people who are traveling to the United States temporarily for business (B-1) or pleasure or medical treatment (B-2).

As per reports, the current waiting time for US Visa Interview Waiver appointment is 233 days in Delhi, 297 in Mumbai and 171 days in Chennai. The US State Department said on Tuesday that for the first time applicants for US business (B-1) and tourist (B-2) visas have turned three years old. "As of this month the global average waiting time for a tourist visa (B1/B2) interview appointment is less than two months." US State Department said.
Eligibility: Those renewing a visa (including B1/B2 visa) within 48 months of expiry can opt for the Interview Waiver option.
To ease visa granting and clear the backlog, the US is making more applicants eligible for interview waivers, sending drop box cases overseas for adjudication and acquiring temporary workers.
Students get top priority for visa interview waiver especially during admission season. The US has reported that skilled workers are next on the accelerated list, followed by repeat B1/B2 visa seekers (those whose visas expired within four years of application, which now qualifies them for interview waivers) And there's the crew.
In particular, it may take a few months for the interview wait time for B1/B2 to come down.
The United States expects processing times to rebound faster than anticipated and expects to reach pre-pandemic levels in fiscal year 2023.
