MCD polls: AAP asks candidates to go on foot march, door-to-door campaign

 


Officials said that the campaign strategy for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections and the way to implement it were discussed in the meeting.

Party officials said that the Aam Aadmi Party has instructed its MCD election candidates to go on foot march and door-to-door campaigning to reach out to the voters ahead of the elections.


At a meeting of 250 party candidates chaired by Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia. Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai and AAP leaders Atishi and Durgesh Pathak also attended the meeting.


Officials said that the campaign strategy for the Municipal Corporation of Delhi elections and the way to implement it were discussed in the meeting.


The candidates were asked to go for padyatras, door-to-door campaigning and hold public meetings at the booth level. He has also been instructed to personally monitor the preparations and reach out to the public, he said.


Sisodia told the candidates, "You have to do a dress rehearsal beforehand for the padayatra. Every step should be well coordinated. You should hold four-five public meetings every day."


AAP's Delhi unit convenor Gopal Rai said that all the candidates will have to listen and understand their problems by connecting with the people at the grassroots level.


"You have to remember that this is not my or your election but the people of Delhi. We have to give utmost respect to their needs and work to fulfill them. All the candidates have to deploy maximum number of people. booths in the area. The bigger the number, the better the preparation."


Meanwhile, amid huge rush, all 750 candidates of the three major parties - AAP, BJP and Congress - filed their nominations for the upcoming civic polls in Delhi on Monday in the national capital, sources said.


November 14 was the last day for filing nominations for the elections to 250 wards of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD).


The tabulation of the data of nominations filed is still underway, the source said.


"Due to a day's rush, the nomination process for all the candidates who came till 3 pm continued till late evening, and the process of uploading nomination documents is underway. Till 11 am, 2,048 nominations out of 1,593 candidates were uploaded and rest of the uploading will be done soon."


Till midnight, 2,394 nominations of a total of 1,871 candidates had been uploaded and the rest were being uploaded.


MCD elections will be held on December 4. The counting of votes will take place on December 7.
