At least 488 people have been killed in protests in Iran since Mahsa Amini's death in September.

There was an unusual reaction from people in Iran after their national football team was knocked out of the FIFA World Cup 2022 after losing to the United States. Scores of people were seen celebrating the loss, some waving American flags in support of the American football team and others setting off firecrackers in celebration.

"Iranians are openly showing their joy at the national soccer team's loss to the US in the #Worldcup. Many Iranians agree that the national team represents the regime, not the people," the ceremony in a video clip Posted by Iranian journalist Masih Alinejad sharing a glimpse of the .

Masih wrote in another post: “Waving the American flag in the streets of Iran. For 43 years the regime brainwashed Iranians to hate America. Middle East analyst Jason Brodsky shared a video clip of the time the United States scored against the Islamic Republic. The scene of the celebration with firecrackers in Sakez, Mahsa Amini's hometown, is written by Brodsky.

On September 16, Mahsa Amini was executed in custody by Iran's notorious morality police for not wearing the hijab properly. Since then, at least 488 people have been killed in protests over Amini's death, according to the Iranian Human Rights (IHR) group. The number includes 60 children and 29 women.
