According to a senior Civil Aviation Ministry official, the average number of passengers at present is around 3.70 lakh and is expected to increase in the coming months, as air traffic is generally high in December and January.
On Sunday, November 27, domestic airlines carried 4,09,831 passengers in 2,739 flights. According to official data, the number of passengers carried by 2,767 flights on November 26 (Saturday) was 4,05,963.
The number of passengers on 27 November was also the highest since the corona virus epidemic. The previous high was on April 17 when the count touched 4,07,975.
Indian airlines carried 11.4 million passengers in October, a 10 per cent increase over the number of air travelers in September.
Domestic air traffic increased by nearly 27 per cent to 114.07 lakh last month as compared to the previous month, when it stood at 89.85 lakh.
The air traffic count in September stood at 103.55 lakh. On 11 October, Prime Minister Narendra Modi described the number of daily domestic air passengers nearing pre-COVID levels as a "great sign" and said the focus was on improving connectivity across the country .
On 9 October, domestic air passenger traffic touched 4 lakh and was approaching pre-COVID levels.
In the wake of the pandemic, scheduled domestic flight services were suspended for two months from March 25, 2020.
