Himachal Assembly Elections: PM Modi addresses election rally, condoles the death of India's first voter

 

• Voting will be held in Himachal Pradesh on 12th November and counting of votes will be done on 8th December.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh today, Saturday to address an election rally ahead of the assembly elections due later this month. At the election rally, PM Modi said, "Every vote cast on November 12 will define the 25-year development journey of the state".

The Prime Minister also lauded the One Rank One Pension scheme, which ensured pension for Army families in Himachal Pradesh.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his election campaigns reiterated the need for 'Double Engine Government' for better development or development of Himachal Pradesh. Earlier, the PM had repeated the same before the assembly elections in Tripura, Assam, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh and Goa, where elections were held during February-March this year.

"It is important to have fast progress and stable government in Himachal Pradesh", said PM Modi at an election rally in Himachal Pradesh's Mandi.

“We gave free vaccines. If there was a Congress government in Himachal Pradesh, then the vaccines would have reached Himachal Pradesh in the end. You (public) voted on the right button and that's why so much development happened."

Taking a dig at the previous Congress government, the Prime Minister said that they had built only 15 houses for the people of Himachal Pradesh during their rule.

"Making false promises and giving false guarantees is an old trick of Congress. Congress never gave priority to the development of Himachal. BJP has fulfilled its promises made to the people.

Concluding his speech, PM Modi said, "This time Himachal elections are very special. This time one vote will decide the development journey of Himachal for the next 25 years. People know that BJP means stability, priority of development. The people of Himachal have decided to form the BJP government again.

Voting in Himachal Pradesh will be held on November 12 and the counting of votes will take place on December 8.

Voting will be held in all 68 assembly seats of the state.

In the last election, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had won 44 seats, while the Congress won 21 seats in Himachal Pradesh. The Congress and the BJP have been forming governments alternately in the state for more than three decades.

Condolences to India's first voter

At the Himachal Pradesh Assembly Election 2022 rally, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered condolences to independent India's first voter, Shyam Saran Negi, who died at the age of 106.

Addressing an election rally in Mandi district here for the November 12 assembly elections in the hill state, Modi said, "When I started from Delhi in the morning, I came to know about the death of Shyam Saran Negi. 106 The year-old had voted more than 30 times in his life."

"Just a few days back, Negi had cast his vote for the Himachal Pradesh elections through postal ballot. He discharged his duty even before his death," Modi said. He said that Negi's approach towards democracy would inspire the youth of the country.

"With a heavy heart, I bow my head to pay tribute and express my deepest condolences to his family members," the Prime Minister said.

The 106-year-old had cast his vote through postal ballot on November 2.

Several BJP and Congress leaders expressed condolences to the Negi family. BJP's Himachal unit tweeted, "BJP expresses deep sorrow and condolences on the passing away of Shyam Saran Negi, the first voter of independent India, the first voter of independent India. May God grant peace and salvation to the departed holy soul."
