Gujarat elections: AAP will announce chief ministerial candidate today



According to party sources, its state unit president Gopal Italia, national general secretary Isudan Gadhvi and general secretary Manoj Soratihya are in the race for the top post from AAP.

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal will today announce the name of the party's chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming Gujarat Assembly elections based on the opinion of the people of the state. Party officials gave this information on Thursday.

Earlier, Kejriwal had urged people to contact the party through SMS, WhatsApp, voice mail and e-mails to give their views on who should be the CM candidate from the party in the state, which is currently Indian. It is governed by the Janata Party. BJP).

He had said that people can express their views till the evening of November 3 and based on their opinion, the name of the party's chief minister's post will be announced the next day.

The party said in a statement that Kejriwal is scheduled to hold a press conference in Ahmedabad on Friday to announce the results. "We will declare the results on November 4," he had said last Saturday.

At that time, Kejriwal had also said, "During the Punjab elections, we had asked people who should be the next chief minister. People took the name of Bhagwant Mann with a huge majority. And we made them according to the wishes of the people. Chief Minister."

Meanwhile, AAP on Thursday announced its ninth list of 10 candidates for the Gujarat elections, taking the number of candidates declared so far to 118.

The Election Commission on Thursday announced that the assembly elections in Gujarat will be held in two phases on December 1 and December 5, while the counting of votes will be held on December 8 along with that of Himachal Pradesh.

“A total of 51,782 polling stations will be set up across Gujarat. Of these, 1,274 will be managed by women polling and security personnel."

Also, there will be facility of home voting for 80 years+ and PWD voter with benchmark 40 percent disability. Gujarat has a total of over 4.9 crore eligible voters, of which 4.6 lakh are first-time voters.

The Election Commission said it is setting up over 1,200 polling stations, especially for women. To encourage young voters, 33 stations will have the youngest employees of the Election Commission while 182 stations will have persons with disabilities.

The term of the Gujarat Legislative Assembly is ending on February 18, 2023 and elections have been announced 110 days in advance.

The entry of AAP has accelerated the Gujarat elections as the BJP seeks to continue its uninterrupted winning streak there since 1995, while the main opposition Congress is working to ramp up its campaign.

In the 2017 elections in Gujarat, the BJP had won 99 seats, while the Congress won 77 seats and secured 49.05 per cent and 42.97 per cent votes, respectively.

The state will witness a triangular contest between the ruling BJP, the opposition Congress and the AAP.
