Gadkari reviews progress of National Highway projects in Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Nagaland

 



• The Minister also reviewed the delayed projects in 4 states to understand the reasons for the delay and issued special instructions to bring them back on track.

New Delhi :

Union Minister for Road, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari on Wednesday reviewed the progress of National Highway projects in Assam, Meghalaya, Sikkim and Nagaland.

"This review is part of a three-day review program of National Highway projects in the North Eastern Region and Sikkim," the Ministry of Road, Transport and Highways said in a press release.

During the review, the issues related to land acquisition, progress of ongoing projects, proposed projects, use of new technologies, disputes and arbitration and possible financial interventions were discussed in detail.

The Minister also reviewed the delayed projects in 4 states to understand the reasons for delay and issued specific directions to bring them on track.

Gadkari directed all the officers to complete the projects expeditiously. "Coordination and partnership between central and state agencies is crucial for developing top class transport infrastructure in the northeastern states."

The Union Roads Minister had said on Tuesday that he aims to build 60 km of highways per day. "We are building 40 km of highways per day, our target is to build 60 km of highways per day," he said.

In 2021-22, the pace of National Highways (NH) construction in the country touched a record 37 km per day, but slowed down to 28.64 km a day due to pandemic-related disruptions and above-normal monsoon in some . parts of the country.

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) are primarily responsible for the construction of national highways and expressways across the country.

The official target of highway construction for the current financial year has been set at 12,000 km. The ministry constructed 10,237 km in 2019-20, 13,327 km in 2020-21 and 10,457 km in 2021-22.
