Elon Musk says he'll back Donald Trump rival in 2024 if he runs for president

• Elon Musk said in June that he was leaning toward a DeSantis endorsement, and the two men exchanged praise for each other

Elon Musk, who has never shied away from talking about his political preferences, said on Saturday that he would endorse Republican Governor of Florida Ron DeSantis if he ran for president in 2024.

In a series of tweets, the new Twitter chief detailed his political views, saying, "My preference for the 2024 presidency is someone sensible and centrist. I expected that to be the case for a Biden administration, But so far I've been disappointed."

He described himself as a "significant supporter of the Obama-Biden presidency and (reluctantly) voted for Biden over Trump."

As a reminder, I was a significant supporter of the Obama-Biden presidency and (reluctantly) voted for Biden over Trump.

When asked by one of the people he was tweeting with whether he would back DeSantis in the next presidential election, Musk replied: "Yes."

Will you support Ron DeSantis in 2024, Elon?

But Twitter as a platform should be fair to all

Musk started a poll on Twitter last week calling for the reinstatement of Trump's account.

It should be noted that Trump has also announced another run for the White House. Trump, whose account was suspended on 6 January 2021 shortly after the attack on the US Capitol by a mob of his supporters, has not posted any new tweets yet.

"I'm fine with Trump not tweeting," Musk said on Twitter Friday night. Public trust in Twitter for half of America."

After Musk restored Trump's Twitter account, civil rights leaders urged major advertisers to stay away from the social media platform. Activists said Musk broke promises he made to them in a closed-door meeting about hate speech and misinformation.

However, it's been a week since Trump hasn't tweeted anything. Trump is active on his own social media platform, "Truth Social".

Trump is bound to post most social media on Truth Social, according to a filing, although there is an exception for political messages.

Musk said in June that he was leaning toward an endorsement of DeSantis, and the two men exchanged praise for each other.

The expressions of support for Musk come as several party leaders, including one-time Trump allies, are talking up DeSantis as a more desirable standard bearer than the former president in the next election.

The governor of Florida again won a landslide victory in the US midterm elections, even as several Republican candidates backed by Trump lost.

Notably, in May, Musk tweeted that he had voted Democrat in the past, but "they have become the party of division and hate, so I can no longer support them and will vote Republican."

Musk tweeted, "To independent-minded voters: Shared power curbs the worst excesses of both parties, so I recommend voting for a Republican Congress, given that the Presidency is Democratic."

"Hardcore Democrats or Republicans never vote for the other party, so independent voters are the ones who really decide who is in charge!" he adds.

Earlier this year, Musk had pledged to vote Republican in May.
