New Delhi: India's active Covid case tally dropped to 5,123 with 291 new coronavirus infections in the last 24 hours, the Union health ministry said in an update on Monday. The total number of cases reported in the country so far since the pandemic hit in early 2020 stands at 4.46 crore, while the death toll stands at 530,614.
According to the Health Ministry, active cases account for 0.01% of the total reported infections, while the recovery rate stands at 98.80%.
As of now, Karnataka has 1,625 active cases, Kerala has 1,745 active cases. Maharashtra has 451 active cases, Odisha 104 cases, Rajasthan 94, Tamil Nadu 268 active cases, Uttar Pradesh 139 and West Bengal 78 active cases.
The country operated 2,66,442 in the last 24 hours.
Under the Covid vaccination drive, more than 219.90 crore vaccine doses have been administered so far to the eligible population across the country. About 8,119 vaccine doses were given in the last 24 hours.
Meanwhile, INSACOG under the supervision of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) is closely monitoring the COVID situation in the country and is continuously undertaking genome sequencing to track new variants, if any.
Surveillance is also continuing at the hospital level with surveillance for Influenza-like illness (III) and SARI cases.
In view of the steady decline in active cases, several state governments have relaxed travel norms and made wearing of masks mandatory.
The health ministry has said that during air travel, an in-flight announcement about the pandemic will be made at all points of entry, including precautionary measures (better use of masks and adherence to physical distancing).
Passengers showing symptoms during the journey will be isolated as per standard protocol.
