Assembly by-elections have started in six states on Thursday, November 3. People's queues have started in the seven assembly seats where by-elections are being held today. The six by-election seats include Gopalganj and Mokoma (Bihar), Adampur (Haryana), Andheri East (Maharashtra), Dhamnagar (Odisha), Munugod, Haryana (Telangana), and Gola Gorakhnath (Uttar Pradesh), respectively.
In the seven seats where the bypolls are being held, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had three seats, the Congress two, while the Shiv Sena and the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) had one seat each.
While victory in the by-elections would be irrelevant to their position in the legislatures, the parties have not taken the election lightly and have run a high campaign.
Counting of votes will take place on November 6.

Maharashtra: Andheri East by-election
In May this year, the Andheri East assembly constituency had to hold a by-election due to the death of Rutuja Latke's husband and Shiv Sena MLA Ramesh Latte. This is the first election after the fall of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government after Eknath Shinde and 39 other MLAs revolted in the Shiv Sena.
Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction candidate Rutuja Latte is expected to register a comfortable victory. He has been pitted against six candidates out of which four are independents. NCP and Congress have supported his candidature.

Haryana: Adampur by-election
The by-elections in Haryana's Adampur assembly constituency will decide whether the Bhajanlal family can hold on to their five-decade stronghold.
The Adampur seat has been occupied by the Bhajan Lal family since 1968, with the late former chief minister representing it on nine occasions, his wife Jasma Devi once and Kuldeep on four occasions.
22 candidates, all male, are in the fray. The main parties contesting the elections are BJP, Congress, Indian National Lok Dal and Aam Aadmi Party.
Former Chief Minister Bhajan Lal's younger son Kuldeep Bishnoi has said that Adampur has been his family's stronghold, and people have showered their love and blessings on it for decades and will do so once again.
The bypoll was necessitated after Kuldeep Bishnoi resigned as an MLA from the seat and switched from the Congress to the BJP in August.
Bishnoi's son Bhavya, who is contesting the bypoll as a BJP candidate, had also quit the Congress and joined the BJP.
Bhavya (29) lost the 2019 Lok Sabha election from Hisar to BJP bureaucrat-turned-politician Brijendra Singh.
The Congress has also fielded former Union minister Jai Prakash, a three-time MP from Hisar and a two-time MLA.
INLD has fielded Congress rebel Kurda Ram Numberdar as its candidate. AAP has fielded Satendra Singh, who broke away from BJP.
Kuldeep Bishnoi had defeated late Sonali Phogat contesting on a BJP ticket in Adampur in the 2019 assembly elections.
Voting began at 7 am and will continue till 6 pm on Thursday. Counting of votes will take place on November 6.
