America: Two Indian students drowned in Missouri Lake

 



The Kansas City Star quoted officials as reporting that the incident happened during the holiday weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the two deceased were identified on Sunday as 24-year-old Utej Kunta and 25-year-old Shiva Keligari.

Two Indian nationals pursuing higher studies in the US state of Missouri died over the weekend as one tried to save the other from drowning.

The Kansas City Star quoted officials as reporting that the incident happened during the holiday weekend at the Lake of the Ozarks in Missouri.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the two deceased were identified on Sunday as 24-year-old Utej Kunta and 25-year-old Shiva Keligari.

The Highway Patrol said one of the men was swimming in the lake when he went underwater and did not come back. According to local media reports, the other man then dived into the water and tried to help the struggling man.

Both the students were reportedly from Telangana state and enrolled in a master's program at a university in the state.

Telangana minister KT Rama Rao said on Twitter, "I have already asked my team @KTRoffice to assist the family in bringing back the mortal remains at the earliest."

In a separate incident in neighboring Canada, a 20-year-old Indian-origin student died last week after being hit by a truck driver in central downtown Toronto.

The Toronto Star reported that the family of Karthik Saini said they had "lost everything" after the 20-year-old Karthik, an international student from India, was murdered on Wednesday.
