"The 27-year-old 110-metre-high chimney of Battery No. 5 of Jamshedpur plant was demolished using blast method, which made the demolition process safe for the workers. It also saved time and was also environment-friendly. The smoke tower was demolished within 11 seconds," said Avnish Gupta, vice-president of the Tata Steel plant.

The work was executed by Edifice Engineering India of South Africa supported by J Demolition Company. This is the same company that brought down the Twin Towers of Noida on 28 August.

Following the demolition of this chimney 'water curtains' were used to control dust and 'trenches with trenches' were also deployed to absorb vibrations. In a series of tweets, Tata Steel said the use of 'steel wraps' prevented the debris from scattering.

This high-precision, #safe and #eco-friendly execution was accomplished in 11 seconds and involved the use of latest #technology. A unique testimony in the world to our #engineering prowess.

Avnish Gupta, VP, Tata Steel, further said that the demolition was successful and was done as planned as it fell below zero-degree, did not cause any loss of life and was also conducted in an environment-friendly manner .
