03/6 What are the early symptoms of arthritis?

Arthritis is not a specific disease, but it is referred to as a term to describe joint pain or disease of any joint. Dr. Akhilesh Yadav, Associate Director and Unit Head Orthopedic, Max Hospital Vaishali says, there are more than 100 types of conditions related to arthritis and people of all age groups suffer from it.

To help readers detect the disease early, the expert also lists some of the early symptoms of arthritis:

Joint pain: A classical and most common warning sign for arthritis is experiencing prolonged pain in any joint.

Swelling and tenderness of the joints: A worsening of the condition can lead to swelling and tenderness in the joints. A person may experience pain when pressing on the joint.

Stiffness in the joints, especially in the morning: After sitting for a while or getting up in the morning, a person may experience stiffness in the joint.

Back pain: It is unknown to many people that hip arthritis can cause pain in the groin, not on the outside of the hip. Hip arthritis can also cause pain in the thighs and buttocks.

Isometric joint pain: Rheumatoid arthritis can cause problems in the same joints on both sides of the body, such as both knees or both wrists.

04/6 What are the other risk factors?

Overweight and obesity: People who are overweight or obese have a higher risk of getting osteoarthritis of the knee than people who are overweight. Osteoarthritis can be prevented by maintaining a healthy weight.

Prior joint pain and joint injury: Prolonged knee bending or repeated stress can damage the joint leading to the development of any type of arthritis.

05/6 Osteoarthritis

"Osteoarthritis is the most common type of arthritis. It begins with the deterioration of the cartilage, the flexible tissue lining the joints. The space between the bones gradually narrows and the surface of the bone changes shape. Over time, this causes the joints causes damage and pain," says a Harvard report.

Symptoms of osteoarthritis develop over many years, although the initial sign is joint pain, especially after heavy physical activity. Another sign is that the joints may be stiff in the morning and loosen as the day progresses.

06/6 Rheumatoid Arthritis

Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic inflammatory disorder where your immune system affects the joint tissues and, in more progressive stages, the internal organs of the body. Nephrologist Dr. Suresh Shankar, Senior Vice President, Clinical Affairs, NephroPlus, says that the initial symptoms of the disease are hot, swollen joints and stiffness in the joints.

Emphasizing the risk of this type of arthritis on the kidneys, Dr. Shankar explains that kidney disease in the context of rheumatoid arthritis can be asymptomatic or cause abnormalities in routine urine tests. In addition, drugs used to treat rheumatoid arthritis can potentially cause kidney side effects.
