White House recognizes India's role in supplying COVID vaccine, here's why

The White House acknowledged India's important role in the supply of vaccines against COVID-19 globally.

He said the Quad partnership on the coronavirus was important to the Joe Biden administration. QUAD is a strategic security dialogue between Australia, India, Japan and the United States.

According to news agency PTI, the White House acknowledged India's important role in the supply of vaccines against Kovid-19 globally and said that the country is an manufacturer of vaccines for the world.

At a press conference here on Tuesday, Dr. Ashish Jha, White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator, said, "Due to its incredible manufacturing capacity, (India) has been a major exporter of vaccines.

He said the Quad partnership on the coronavirus was important to the Joe Biden administration. QUAD is a strategic security dialogue between Australia, India, Japan and the United States.

“I think India is an important manufacturer of vaccines for the world. I don't mean just India, it's a really important thing," he told a White House news conference, PTI reported.

Dr Jha defended the Biden administration's decision to supply vaccines to the world and said the US would continue to make them available to every low and many low and middle income countries.

"There are about 100 countries that are eligible to receive free vaccines through COVAX - where we donate the vaccines that are still available for charity," he said. According to Dr Jha, every major version that comes to America has its origins from outside the country.

"Therefore, the notion that we can somehow lock ourselves in and not be affected by what is happening in the rest of the world," he was quoted as saying by PTI.

"That's not how these kinds of transmissible viruses work. So if you think about it with a very narrow self-interest, it's very important that we get vaccinated in most parts of the world, that we do this kind of vaccination program. But you know, beyond selfishness, America is a country that is deeply connected to the world."

Dr. Jha claimed that Biden has restored US leadership on global health in a way that is 'very different from the previous president'.

"Therefore, for many reasons, it is very important that the US continues to lead, €4.02 billion is a small investment to better protect Americans and better protect the world," he was quoted by PTI.
