A police personnel has been suspended after a video of him stealing an electric bulb from outside a shop in Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj went viral.
Constable Rajesh Verma, posted in Phulpur police station area of Prayagraj district, can be seen walking carelessly towards a shop that is closed on CCTV. Before stealing the bulb, he looks around and then takes out the bulb and puts it in his pocket before walking away.
Verma was on night duty on the day of Dussehra Mela (fair). Local people say that the incident is of October 6.
The next morning the shopkeeper checked the CCTV footage after seeing the missing bulb and was surprised that a policeman was stealing the light bulb.

Following the massive uproar following the incident, the policeman was suspended and sent to the police lines.
Verma was recently promoted and was posted at Phulpur police station for the last eight months, NDTV reported.
During interrogation, Verma argued that he had only removed the bulb and kept it at the place where it was posted, as it was dark there.
This is not the first case, as there was a similar incident in Kanpur earlier, where a person sleeping on the pavement was caught stealing a mobile phone from his pocket.
