Samajwadi Party patriarch Mulayam Singh Yadav was cremated next to the place where his first wife Malti Devi was cremated.


The Yadav family was keeping this part empty in the fair ground as per the wishes of Mulayam Singh Yadav.


The SP founder had done two marriages. His second wife was Sadhna Gupta who passed away recently.

He was first married to Malti Devi, who was born in the village of Saifai in 1943 in the early 60s. Their only son Akhilesh Yadav was born on 1 July 1973.


During childbirth, she developed complications and her health deteriorated, putting her in a vegetative state in 1974. He died in May 2003 at the age of 60 and was cremated at the Mela Ground. Since then, a place next to his cremation site was reserved by the family.




Mulayam Singh Yadav, who gave birth to one of the largest political clans, wanted his last rites to be performed at this place after his death, it is said in the village. A memorial has been planned at this place in his memory.

The family asked for sandalwood for the pyre from Kannauj, which has been a party stronghold. Wood weighing 100 kg reached Saifai early in the morning. Cow dung cakes kept in the pyre were specially prepared in his native village on this occasion.


Mulayam Singh Yadav's elder brother Ratan Singh Yadav was also cremated at the fair ground.
