PM Modi will also offer prayers in two temples


Amid tight security, PM Modi will begin his visit to Kedarnath and Badrinath today and lay the foundation stone for connectivity projects worth over Rs 3400 crore.


Prime Minister Modi will visit Kedarnath and Badrinath today to offer prayers at two temples, laying the foundation stone for over ₹3400 crore connectivity projects including the Gaurikund to Kedarnath ropeway, reducing the travel time from 6-7 hours to just 30. minutes.


Senior officials said security has been tightened in the area in view of the Prime Minister's visit. While officials are busy finalizing the preparations for the two-day event, both Kedarnath and Badrinath temples have been decorated with quintals of flowers and there is a lot of enthusiasm among the priests and devotees of both the dhams.


PM Modi will start his journey by reaching Kedarnath at around 8:30 am and offering prayers at Kedarnath temple. Thereafter, he will lay the foundation stone for the 9.7-km-long Kedarnath ropeway project connecting Gaurikund with Kedarnath and will reduce the travel time from the present 6-7 hours to just 30 minutes.


After this, the Prime Minister will visit the Samadhi Sthal of Adi Guru Shankaracharya and will also review the progress of development works along Mandakini Asthapath and Saraswati Asthapath.


Thereafter, PM Modi will visit Badrinath at around 11:30 am and offer prayers at the holy temple. He will also lay the foundation stone of road and ropeway projects in Mana village and review the progress of development works of Awas plaza and lakes.


A release from the Prime Minister's Office on the occasion of his visit to Uttarakhand read, "Kedarnath and Badrinath are one of the most important Hindu temples. The region is also known for a revered Sikh pilgrimage site - Hemkund Sahib. Connectivity projects done The going reflects the Prime Minister's commitment to easing access to infrastructure and improving infrastructure in places of religious importance."


Talking about the ropeway projects, the statement said, "The ropeway, which will be developed at a cumulative cost of around ₹ 2430 crore, is an eco-friendly mode of transport that will provide a safe, secure and stable mode of transport. This major infrastructure development will give a boost to religious tourism, which will spur economic growth in the region as well as create many employment opportunities."


Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the Kedarnath-Badrinath Yatra of the Prime Minister will prove to be a milestone in the development of Uttarakhand. He said the connectivity projects being undertaken at these places reflect the Prime Minister's commitment to ease access to places of religious importance and improve infrastructure.
