Mumbai News Live Updates: The Congress on Saturday held a protest at Sion-Koliwada against the 'failure' of the Maharashtra government to start distribution of Diwali kits to the residents of the state. Mumbai Congress general secretary Amit Jagannath Shetty along with local residents led the protest at Sion-Koliwada. The Maharashtra cabinet had on October 4 announced the decision to distribute Diwali kits consisting of one kg of rava, sugar, chana dal (lentils) and one liter of palm oil for Rs 100 to 1.7 crore ration card holders in the state. ,


The Central Railway (CR) of Mumbai division has increased the price of platform tickets from Rs 10 to Rs 50 from Friday. The increased price will be applicable till the end of October. This has been done to prevent overcrowding of passengers at some stations during the festive Diwali season.


Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy CM Devendra Fadnavis and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena President Raj Thackeray shared the stage at a Diwali event held at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on Friday. Voting by three prominent leaders representing three different political parties on the same platform has triggered discussions of a new alliance ahead of the BMC elections early next year.
