Maharashtra Govt Removes 'Security Shield' Of These MVA Leaders - Here's Why

The Maharashtra government has removed the 'classified' security cover of 25 MVA leaders.

This means that these MVA leaders will not have permanent police protection outside their homes or escorts. The decision was taken after a fresh assessment of their security perception.

The Maharashtra government has removed the 'classified' security cover of 25 leaders of the Maha Vikas Aghadi alliance of the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena faction, NCP and Congress, an official was quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

This means that these MVA leaders will not have permanent police protection outside their homes or escorts. The official said the decision was taken after a fresh assessment of their security perception.

Former cabinet ministers are also among those who lost the security cover. However, as reported by PTI, the security of former Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray and his family has been maintained.

Apart from Uddhav Thackeray, security has also been maintained for Nationalist Congress Party leader Sharad Pawar and his family including his daughter and Baramati Lok Sabha MP Supriya Sule.

Some other NCP leaders Jayant Patil, Chhagan Bhujbal and jailed Anil Deshmukh have been removed from the 'classified' security cover. Security has been tightened for NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad.

Interestingly, Uddhav Thackeray's personal secretary and trusted aide Milind Narvekar has been given a 'Y-plus-escort' cover. Leader of Opposition in the Assembly Ajit Pawar (NCP) and fellow NCP leader Dilip Walse-Patil, who was home minister in the previous MVA government, have also been given 'Y-plus-escort' cover, PTI reported.

Other leaders who lost the classified security cover included Nawab Malik (NCP), Vijay Wadettiwar, Balasaheb Thorat, Nana Patole, Satej Patil (All Congress), Bhaskar Jadhav (Shiv Sena), Dhanjay Munde (NCP), Sunil Kedare (Congress), Narhari Huh. Zirwal (NCP) and Varun Sardesai (Shiv Sena Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray), Eknath Khadse (NCP), Anil Parab and Sanjay Raut (both Shiv Sena UBT). Kalaben Delkar, MP from Dadra and Nagar Haveli also lost the security cover.

Congress leaders Ashok Chavan and Prithviraj Chavan, both former chief ministers, have been provided 'Y category' security.

The official claimed that all the decisions regarding the security cover have been taken professionally keeping in view the perception of danger and the move has nothing to do with the political affiliations of the leaders.
