Maharashtra government announces 75,000 jobs, faces protests

 


On Saturday, appointment letters were handed over to 75,000 new employees in 38 central ministries and departments at functions held at various places across the country.

The Maharashtra government has decided to provide jobs to 75,000 youth in a move aimed at tackling unemployment in the state. Announcing on Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said that jobs will be provided in various departments of the state government.


The announcement came on the day Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Rozgar Mela, a government campaign to recruit 10 lakh people in 18 months. On Saturday, appointment letters were handed over to 75,000 new employees in 38 central ministries and departments at functions held at various places across the country.


“Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a good decision today to give jobs to 10 lakh youth, starting with 75,000 jobs. Addressing the media in Nagpur, Fadnavis said that this will be a big step towards solving the problem of unemployment.


He announced, "The Maharashtra government will also provide employment to 75,000 youth in various state government departments."



He said that out of these 75,000 jobs, 18,000 would be in the police force, for which an announcement would be made within a week.


Hitting out at the state government, the opposition Congress asked Fadnavis to explain the status of his promise to provide 72,000 government jobs during his previous term.


The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) also opposed the state government on the issue. AAP's state secretary Dhananjay Shinde has written to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde demanding that the state government withdraw its decision to cancel the recruitment process for 13,514 Zilla Parishad posts.




“During his previous tenure as chief minister, Fadnavis had promised 72,000 government jobs to the youth of Maharashtra. They didn't even provide 72 jobs. Instead of recruiting for jobs, they recruited MLAs from other parties in the BJP. Like his senior leader and Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi, Fadnavis believes in making a show, but he gives nothing,” Maharashtra Congress chief spokesperson Atul Londhe said.


NCP spokesperson Clyde Cresto asked whether the 75,000 jobs promised by Fadnavis was two crore jobs per year promised by the BJP in 2014 or whether it was "another unfinished gimmick to fool people to gain votes". Will..."
