As preparations are in full swing to promote medical tourism as part of the central government's ambitious Heal in India campaign, according to people familiar with the matter, officials plan to create a dedicated logo to promote the initiative globally.

1,097 logo designs have been received from the public which are currently being reviewed by the Ministry of Health. The necessity of the logo design was that it should represent Heil's foundation in India's identity and reflect its mandate to a global audience with an artistic arrangement in the national tricolor.

This pan-India initiative of the Ministry of Health caters to the needs of people across the world. The Heal in India initiative focuses on establishing India as a global leader in the health sector and promoting medical tourism in the country.

The initiative includes a digital portal called Medical Value Travel, which will be a window of integrated Indian healthcare to the world. The portal is meant to facilitate transparency in the field along with providing global presence and search capability to Indian healthcare facilities and healthcare professionals to assist international patients in their entire medical journey in India.

The initiative is a multi-stakeholder project, involving the central and state governments, and the industry to provide the world with quality health care in both modern and traditional medicine, as per the government's vision document on the initiative of HT.

This initiative is based on the foundation of the Indian philosophy of Seva (Service) and Atithi Devobhava (Guest is equal to God).

The scheme also intends to standardize procedures and treatment packages for foreign nationals as a wide range of prices are currently being quoted for the same procedure in different hospitals across the country. Standardization of treatment cost so that patients are not overcharged is the highlight of the initiative.

“It is a kind of rebranding, as with medical care, the word tourism somehow does not sound right. Moreover, the initiative aims to look at ways with which we can improve the overall experience for patients coming to India from different countries, which is why this campaign has been hailed as the Heal in India campaign,” A central government official said, requesting anonymity.

As part of the initiative, a proven central grievance redressal mechanism for international patients is also going to be in place, which is largely missing in the country.

India is one of the more sought-after destinations among foreign patients, mainly due to the low cost of treatment, a large number of highly trained doctors, and state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment. Patients from abroad come for cancer treatment, organ transplant surgery, plastic surgery etc.
