Google search page for mobile gets updates: 'labels for ads' among others

 



According to Google, these changes will be rolled out to search ads to increase clarity and advertiser transparency at a glance.

• Google is replacing 'ads' in bold with the 'sponsored' label next to ads that appear in search results. Additionally, this label will be present in the row above the site URL, rather than showing it next to the URL.

Google search is popular for people all over the world to find information from various sources and formats (text, images and videos). The technology giant has been transforming both mobile and web search since the feature's launch. Google is rolling out some updates now. These updates are essentially changes to the search page on mobile that will make it easier for users to differentiate between search results from trusted sources and ads.

When displaying search results on pages on mobile, renaming the ad tag to sponsor is one of the most user-friendly changes announced. Users may have seen some links with 'Advertisements' on the top left corner. It is sometimes difficult to differentiate between advertising links and links from sources they rely on, especially on mobile.

Another update is coming in the form of adding site names and bigger icons to the search page on mobile. “We are adding site names to search results on mobile, so you can easily identify the website each result is linked to at a glance. We are also updating the size and shape of the favicon (a website's logo or icon) that appears in search."

According to Google, these changes will be extended to search ads to increase clarity and advertiser transparency at a glance.

In addition, Google says that these search page updates are slowly rolling out on mobile. The company will soon start testing a similar experience on desktop as well.


Meanwhile, Google has also introduced a new passkey feature for Android devices and Google Chrome. This feature provides additional security to the users. Users will now soon be able to use this option to authenticate their identity using a PIN or biometric authentication to log into any website or app instead of using a password. The technology giant is touting it as a safer alternative for users as compared to the traditional two-factor authentication method.
