ED attaches 7 properties of Mukhtar Ansari in PMLA case

New Delhi: The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday said it has attached seven immovable properties of former MLA Mukhtar Ansari as part of a money laundering probe against him and his family.

The probe agency said in a statement that the value of the provisionally attached property under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) is ₹1.48 crore (registry value), while their circle rate at the time of registration was ₹3.42 crore.

“During investigation, it came to the notice of this Directorate that two more FIRs were registered by the Uttar Pradesh Police against Vikas Construction (a partnership firm) for building godowns by encroaching on public/government land. The godowns were constructed in Mau and Ghazipur districts of Uttar Pradesh," the ED said in a press release.

The firm Vikas Construction was being operated by Mukhtar Ansari's wife Afshan Ansari and his two brothers Atif Raza and Anwar Shahzad and two other persons Ravindra Narayan Singh and Zakir Hussain.

The ED said in a statement that the Uttar Pradesh Police has filed a charge sheet in one of the FIRs registered in Mau district in which all the partners of the firm Vikas Nirman have been made accused.

During investigation of PMLA it was revealed that Rs 15 crore rent was collected from Food Corporation of India by Vikas Construction by renting out illegally constructed godowns by encroaching public/government land in Mau and Ghazipur district of Uttar Pradesh.

This rent was used to buy real estate in the name of Vikas Construction and Afshan Ansari.

“After locating such immovable properties, the Enforcement Directorate has temporarily attached seven immovable properties worth Rs. 1.48 crore (registry value). The circle rate of the properties attached at the time of registration is Rs. 3.42 crore," the ED said in a release.

Further investigation is on to find out the remaining process of the crime.

Five-time former MLA Mukhtar Ansari is currently lodged in Banda jail in Uttar Pradesh. The 59-year-old was questioned by the ED in this case last year.
