Delhi government ready to answer all questions on 'Red Light On, Gaadi Off' campaign

Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the government will answer all the questions raised by LG VK Saxena on the 'Red Light On, Car Off' campaign.

Delhi LG VK Saxena has asked Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to reconsider the campaign, questioning the effectiveness of such an 'ad-hoc' measure as the national capital reels under high air pollution levels.

According to news agency PTI, Delhi Environment Minister Gopal Rai said that the government will answer all the questions raised by LG VK Saxena on the 'red light on, car off' campaign and will resubmit the file for his approval.

The minister also accused the Lieutenant Governor of doing politics on the issue related to the lives of Delhiites.

Sources told PTI on Saturday that Saxena has asked Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal to reconsider the campaign, questioning the effectiveness of such an "ad-hoc" measure as the national capital grapples with high air pollution levels. .

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Delhi had earlier attacked the LG, alleging that the delay in clearing the proposal had forced it to postpone the launch of the campaign on October 28.

However, sources in the LG office claimed that the city environment minister Gopal Rai had lied as the date of the launch was mentioned as October 31 in the file sent by the chief minister. The LG also asked Kejriwal and his ministers to refrain from campaigning on issues of public importance. ,

A source was quoted as saying by the LG, "I am constrained to mention that such frivolous behavior involving baseless allegations, false allegations and political charges on the part of a minister is unbecoming."

It was done against a constitutional authority, only for political monopoly and propaganda is extremely unfair and unfortunate. Such publicity should be avoided and the minister should be advised to be cautious in such issues of public importance."

Sources said that the LG has sent a file to Chief Minister Kejriwal with advice to reconsider the proposal. Saxena LG objected to the "inhuman" and "exploitative use" of Civil Defense Volunteers (CDVs) at highly polluted traffic intersections and sites.

"There is a need to find technical solutions to implement such measures in the long run, not to deploy humans and put them at risk," the source told PTI.

The LG also highlighted that the results of previous campaigns "are not reflected in the proposal and no impact assessment report has been provided to support the effectiveness of earlier campaigns to improve air quality in the city."

The month-long 'Red Light On, Car Off' campaign aims to encourage drivers to switch off the ignition of their vehicles while waiting at the traffic signal.
