Center approves creation of Weapon Systems Wing for IAF officers



This is the first time after independence that a new operational wing has been created.

The creation of the WS branch would have integrated all weapon systems operators under a single unit dedicated to the operational employment of all ground-based and specialist airborne weapon systems.


New Delhi: On the occasion of the 90th anniversary of the Indian Air Force (IAF), the Center has approved the creation of a new branch, called the Weapon Systems (WS) Branch, the Defense Ministry said in a statement on Saturday. .

This is the first time after independence that a new operational wing has been created.


The creation of the WS branch would require all weapon system operators to be integrated under a single unit dedicated to operational employment of all ground-based and specialist aerial weapon systems, the ministry said.

According to the ministry, the branch will include operators in twin/multi-maneuver aircraft in four specialized streams of surface-to-surface missiles, surface-to-air missiles, remotely operated aircraft and weapon system operators.

This branch will contribute immensely by enhancing the combat capability of the Indian Air Force.@
