Apple is all set to roll out macOS Ventura on October 24, 2022, the same day that iPadOS 16.1 will be available to iPad users. This update was first unveiled at WWDC 2022 in June and comes with a slew of new features including Stage Manager, Continuity Camera and Handoff for FaceTime. Tagging along these goodies is a major change in the System Preferences app that gives it a completely new look as well as system settings.

Here's everything there is to know about macOS Ventura:

stage manager

Stage Manager is a tool that automatically organizes open apps and windows, arranging them into a single view so users can focus on their main app. The current window is displayed prominently in the center while other open windows appear on the left to aid in quick switching between them. It works with other windowing tools such as Mission Control and Space.

continuity camera

Apple has bundled a new feature with Ventura that allows users to use their iPhone as a webcam. Macs will be able to automatically detect and use the camera on the iPhone when it's nearby and use features like Portrait Mode, Center Stage, and a new studio light effect to enhance footage.

Other Major Updates

Interestingly, iMessage users can now edit and unsend messages on macOS, just like they can on iOS. The Mail app has likewise been updated with an option to unsend emails. The Clock app for iPhone and iPad is now also available on Mac to level up productivity. In addition, Safari has been updated to support Passkey for a more secure and easier way to sign in that doesn't involve the use of passwords.

The browser has also been updated with shared tab groups that allow users to share sites with friends and family, allowing them to see what other people are watching in real time. Users can also start Message conversations or FaceTime calls directly from Safari.

Spotlight gets an updated design aimed at making navigation easier. Users will now be able to search for images in their photo library, across the system, and on the web.
