Ahead of Diwali, Dearness Allowance of Uttar Pradesh government employees has been increased to 38%

• The Central Government on September 28 approved 4% additional installment of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief to Central Government employees and pensioners
Ahead of Diwali, the Uttar Pradesh government issued an order to increase the Dearness Allowance (DA) and dearness relief of its employees and pensioners from 34% to 38% with effect from July 1.
According to a tweet by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's office, "Keeping in view the larger interests of UP CM Yogi Adityanath has decided to increase the rate of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief from the present 34% to 38% with effect from 01.07. State Employees and Pensioners/Family Pensioners".
Recently many other states have increased the dearness allowance of their employees. On October 14, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel announced a 5% increase in Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees, taking the overall tally to 33%. According to the official, this increase will benefit about 3.80 lakh employees of the state government.
Earlier this month, the Delhi government also increased the DA of its employees by 4%.
The Jharkhand cabinet on October 10 approved a proposal to hike Dearness Allowance (DA) for state government employees and Dearness Relief (DR) for pensioners by 4% with effect from July 1 this year.
Notably, the Central Government on September 28 approved 4% additional installment of Dearness Allowance and Dearness Relief to Central Government employees and pensioners with effect from July 1, 2022.
With this hike, the DA will be 38 per cent. Earlier DA was 34% between January and June 2022.
There are about 50 lakh central government employees and more than 61 lakh pensioners.
DA is calculated as a percentage of the basic pay of government employees. In simple words, DA means a living adjustment which is given to these employees. DA is paid by the government to the employees to help them deal with the stubbornly rising prices which are caused by high inflation.
How to Calculate Dearness Allowance on Your Salary
For Central Government Employees: DA is calculated as - {(Average of All India Consumer Price Index (Base Year-2001 = 100) for the last 12 months -115.76)/115.76} x 100.
Meanwhile, for Central Public Sector employees, DA is calculated as --- {(Average of All India Consumer Price Index (Base Year-2001 = 100) for the last 3 months-126.33)/126.33} x 100 Is performed.
